About
Grizzly Base Camp is a 132 acre Scout camp property in Northwest Montana’s Glacier Country.
Travel to Grizzly Base:
Grizzly Base is accessible by car, plane, train and bus.
It is conveniently located near Glacier National Park, Bob Marshall Wilderness, Great Bear Wilderness, Flathead Lake, the 3 forks of the Flathead River (National Wild and Scenic River) , and two ski mountains: (Whitefish Mountain Resort, formerly Big Mountain Resort) and Blacktail Mountain Ski Area. Whitefish Mountain Resort has many summer activities, including the Walk in the Treetops.

- Hilly terrain surrounding McGilvray Lake, a 14 acre spring-fed lake stocked with rainbow trout; and a small seasonal pond we call “the Turtle Pond”.

The property is also a Registered Tree Farm, with Douglas Fir, Western Tamarack (Larch), Lodgepole Pine, Ponderosa Pine and other less dominant species. The camp’s forest is managed by members of the Society of American Foresters. They are experienced professional foresters with decades of private industry and US Forest Service forest management experience. We also have a professional hydrologist on our camp committee.
Seasonal limitations: Water is available in the dining hall/kitchen year-round. The shower house currently has water from April thru October.
Camp administration: The camp property is managed by the Grizzly Base camp committee, which includes Scoutmasters and assistant Scoutmasters with decades of Montana Scouting experience, an OA chapter advisor, OA Vigil Honor members, as well as Scouters with experience on the Council Executive Board.
